Artist Statement

The immediacy of paper has drawn me into its fold throughout my life. Slice, fold, add a dab of glue, and the flat sheet transforms into an airplane, a pop-up card, or an ornament. Put a few pieces together, and light and shadow dance on the surface. But where to crease? And where to cut? Precise assembly is a struggle: the compound angles boggle the mind.

Making sense of all the angles requires a computer. 3D modeling lets me draw these complex compositions. My creative expression includes making tools to model, unfold, mark, score, and cut the paper precisely. Once cut, my hands fold and assemble the final work. After folding thousands of elements, I’m still surprised and delighted as the flat pops into three dimensions.

May you be drawn into the folds with delight.
